Braggin' on a Bear

Bailee was Braggin' on a Bear this week. It is her school's version of student of the week. Her teacher told me it was so cute when she found out it was her. Her teacher didn't tell the kids who it was and they had to listen over the intercom. When Bailee heard her name, Mrs. Smith said it was like she won Miss America. The tears of happiness welled up in her eyes and was saying thank you and she was in complete shock. I wish I could have seen that. She got to take home Billy Bear and has to write about his adventures. We took lots of pictures and took Billy bear everywhere. She had to make a poster about herself and on Friday she read her favorite book to the class, tell about her poster and brought treats. I was so proud of her. She was just smiling from ear to ear as she was reading to her class. She is a good student and was so excited to be Braggin' on a Bear. She had lots of fun. I loved watching her. She is so cute. I just love her to death! I'm very blessed to have her as a daughter. Such a good girl.

Soccer Season Again

It's soccer season again and Bailee is ready to play. She had her first two games yesterday (Saturday) back to back! It was a long afternoon, but it was good. We won both games and Bailee played really well. I was very proud of her. It was a nice sunny day and I got a bit of a sunburn on my one arm and one knee that was facing the sun. The other half of me is still Casper. I brought a little tent for Kassi since we would be there so long and she was the envy of all the other kids. She had a good time. Bailee also brought Billy Bear to her game since she was Braggin on a Bear (her school's student of the week).
 
 
 
 

Ready for Halloween time

Kassidy is ready for October and Halloween. She wanted to wear her Halloween shirt, socks and headband to school yesterday. She can't wait to get the decorations out. I told the girls Sunday after church they could decorate.
 
Don't ask me. I don't know. She just wanted to pose that way.

Billy's Big Bass

Billy went fishing last night at the lake by our house. He called me on my way home from soccer practice and said grab the camera and meet me at the dock. I figured he got a nice one and here it is. Not exactly sure how big (it was dark and we couldn't find the scale), but not too shabby! That's my man!

Totally 80s Flashback

So my friend, Kim, from high school (junior high, elementary,infancy,college roomie, basically I've known her my entire life.) Anyway, she calls me today and we were talking about one of our other friends and if I had any pictures. Blah, Blah, Blah. We were reminiscing and laughing as it usually goes. I told her I had some old pictures and I would make a special post just for her. So, girl here you go. These pics are from our senior year, 89-90. The song, one of the top 100 of 1989. (It went good with the pics. I couldn't think of a good one from our usual glam rock hair band songs. Can my hair be any bigger? One outfit I have on is totally UGLY! What was I thinking? I still love your cone head hair! Classic! Has it really been almost 19 years? Crazy. Enjoy and call me!

HURRICANE IKE!

I do have to say that Hurricane Ike was more exciting than Gustav. We got a little more action out of this one. For blogging purposes, I had the girls go out in it and I was trying to get some pics with thier hair flying around, but I couldn't quite catch it when the gusts whipped up. Yes, Billy said I was crazy, but this was good scrapbook/blog material. :-)Be assured no children were harmed in the taking of these pictures.
 
 
 
 
I'm not quite sure how strong the gusts actually got up to, but there were times when you could see tree limbs bent all the way over with the direction of the wind. We were lucky as our power went out only for about a minute. In the next little community over, Haughton, a tree downed a powerline and my friend, Dawn is going to be without power for a few days in her subdivision.

  Thar he blows! Not super bad, but at least this was more exciting than Gustav.

Branches and leaves all over the yard. It doesn't look like much in the picture. It's one of those you have to see it in person, but all and all it wasn't bad. We are lucky and blessed. My heart goes out to those in Houston and Galveston.
 
We lost a few shingles, but luckily most of them were just from the first row. About a month ago Billy bought a package of shingles because we had lost three from a previous storm. He bought it for about $30. Our neighbor had also lost some shingles and told us the price had jumped up to $60 for a package. Crazy! I'm glad we already had ours.

Then my neighbor pointed out that the top of this tree was snapped. I don't know how we will get that one down right now.

At the Beach

Okay, I know I've been slacking with my posts. I've just been kind of busy with work, kids, husband, life! You know how it goes. Anyway, to catch up, last week we went to the lake and had a cookout with Brandon and Pam and the kids. Kassi was so excited to go to the beach, she had been begging me for a long time to go. Of course, Bailee is our little water dog. She will swim for hours. It was a nice day.
 
 
 
 

Kassi's First Day of Pre-K

Today was Kassi's first day back to school. She was supposed to go Tuesday, but with Gustav school was cancelled. She was all excited to go and didn't even care that I was leaving after I dropped her off. She took forever picking out her outfit last night and didn't like the shoes I picked out to go with it. She kept giving me the "gag me" sign because they weren't sparkly enough. She wanted to wear her pink glitter shoes, but I save those for church so they won't get yucky playing at school. She finally relented and wore the shoes I picked out. She said she just wanted to be fabulous for the first day. Of course I told her she was! I'm sure she had fun as her best buddy, Evan was there at school to greet her. I have to say it has been a nice three hours to myself! So quiet. HURRICANE GUSTAV!

 
A big disappointment! For days, my neighbors and people at church were stressing me out about this hurricane. Oh, we have to watch out for flooding and tornados. Make sure you have water, batteries, food. Billy got called into work Sunday to get the planes out of here. I ran to Walmart to get some things so we would be prepared if we lost electricity or water, which was a madhouse. I hate going to walmart anyway, but it was insane. Mike got me some sandbags, since Billy was at work. All day Monday Billy and I got the house ready for this big storm bringing everything inside the garage and putting sandbags out. The governor even canceled school Tuesday and Wednesday. We were ready and bunkered in. We waited and waited some more. It was just two rainy days! Nothing big, barely any wind. No big flooding down pours. I thought I would have a good story to tell. Maybe next week since Ike and Josephine are still out there. Looks like Hanna is going to the Carolinas.
 
Here's our hurricane damage. A branch fell on a tree in our back yard, but it may have been weak anyway. I doubt the wind we had was strong enough to do it. Oh, well. Better safe than sorry. I supposed with all the Katrina mess a few years ago it was the idea to be better prepared. Thanks to all who called to check in on us and your prayers. They worked!
